The fort doesn’t just serve as a fortress – people today still live inside the fort since it was built in 1156 with shops, hotels, and old homes still standing. • After the fort, we’re going to check out the beautiful Havelis, starting with the Patwon ki Haveli where you walk inside the luxurious Mansion of Brocade Merchants, built by a rich trader in the 19th century. It’s also known as Kothari’s Patwa Haveli and is actually a cluster of five smaller havelis built for the five sons of Guman Chand Patwa in 1805. Next up is the Nathmal Ki Haveli which was built in the 19th century, a historical mansion within the city center where Diwan Mohta Nathmal used to reside.
